Amaravathi bridge
The 3.2-km-long six-lane bridge’s design — named Amaravati Dynamic, will come up across the Krishna river from Pavitra Sangamam in Ibrahimpatnam to N10 road near Uddandarayunipalem in the Amaravati region. With a 170-metre-tall pylon, it was one of the many “iconic” structures planned, in order to develop Amaravati as a world-class city. The big idea for the Iconic Bridge is to reinforce the defining logic of the design by creating a ‘Silhouette’ imbibing the essence of ‘Andhra Pradesh’. This structure reflects the multiple identities of what ‘Amaravati has been, and of what it seeks to become’. The shape and form are a derivation of the configuration of the state boundary, asana of yoga, gesture of Kuchipudi and a shape of yacht. Colour of the bridge is an important aspect to be considered in order to establish harmony with the environment and should appropriately depict the strength and stature of its iconic form while being suitable for structural characteristics of constituent materials like steel and concrete. The cables are proposed to be in yellow shade as the colour blocks out the sun’s harmful ultraviolet radiation, increasing the life of the cable structure while also adding to the visual appeal of the bridge against the dull blue background of the Krishna River.
